We will soon be Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Roe!
Friday, Daniel had planned on coming to Birmingham, and spending one last night in this wonderful city with me. However, he sent me a text message saying "call me as soon as soon as you get off work." He then informed me that as soon as he turned onto Lakeshore his truck started knocking and he thought it was due to his catalytic converter that he had said needed to be replaced months ago, and he also proceeded to tell me that his check engine light had been on since he left Auburn. I was automatically disappointed because he had told me that we were going to go out and do something special, but I knew we would have to deal with his truck now! However, I put my disappointment aside and began to worry about how we would get his truck fixed. I had to go pick him up from Samford, where he had pulled into because he was afraid he wouldn't make it to my apartment. When I got there (20 minutes later) he said he was walking around campus, and to just walk towards him. I found him standing in front of the Beeson chapel on campus in this beautiful courtyard area. He motioned for me to hurry towards him because he wanted to show me something. When I got close he said "Do you see that dome up there? Well forget about it," and he got down on one knee and that's when I spotted the ring in his hand! He said "I know I'll never be good enough for you, but will you please marry me?" Keep in mind that Daniel and I had talked a lot about getting married, and I knew he would be proposing soon, but I had convinced myself that it would be September at the earliest. I am usually good at figuring out secrets, but I had no clue that he had gone to pick out the ring, talk to my parents, and even talked to my best friend. I thought for sure that I would at least have some idea when it got close to the time he was going to propose, but I had no clue! So, I was completely in shock of what was happening at the very moment. This was the day that I had dreamed about as a little girl, and all I could do was laugh! My heart was filled with every emotion possible (all the good ones that is) and the only way that I could begin expressing it was by laughing! I was so awestruck that I couldn't even stand up straight! If you ask Daniel how I reacted he'd tell you that I started laughing and backing away from him! I was so incredibly happy!! I dropped my keys and my phone (in the grass luckily), and immediately said "yes" and hugged him! My dreams had come true!! I was so happy I continued to laugh and hug and kiss him, until finally he said why don't you sit down and call your parents. Then that's when the happy tears rushed to my cheeks! All night and weekend long we would look at each other and say "we're engaged!!," and of course stare at the beautiful ring he picked out! That feeling has continued all week! I can't stop staring at my ring, and I catch myself smiling when no one else is around because I'm engaged!!!
